Tough Residence

In 2014, Cam Tough and his mother, Marion, approached ABC to explore renovating an aging home in Boundary Bay. Rather than defaulting to a renovation, Alex—working closely with his brother Cedric Burgers, Principal Architect at Burgers Architect Inc. (BAI)—challenged the premise and encouraged the family to reconsider a full rebuild. Together, they developed a compelling vision for a new waterfront residence that fully leveraged the site’s extraordinary potential.

The proposal evolved into a BAI-designed 4,300 sq. ft. custom single-family home featuring five bedrooms and five bathrooms, positioned to capture sweeping 180-degree ocean views with direct beachfront access.

ABC played a key role during the project’s early phases, assisting with the selection and coordination of the Architect, Structural Engineer, and Geotechnical Engineer. A specialized Water Hydraulics Consultant was also engaged to design the rip-rap protection required along the seawall to safeguard the property. ABC further supported the project through preliminary Class D budgeting and schedule development.

In 2016, a Development Permit application was submitted to the City of Delta. While the project ultimately did not proceed due to timing and financial considerations, the design remains a standout response to a challenging coastal site.
